Zoning Commission
The Harlem Township Zoning Commission is a standing committee appointed by the Harlem Township Trustees. Ohio Revised Code section 519 gives townships the right to apply zoning to lands within the township thereby protecting citizens from inappropriate uses of neighboring properties. The Zoning Commission is the local government body charged with creating and recommending language included in both our township Zoning Resolution and our Comprehensive (or Master) Plan. These two documents govern the land uses in our township and are available at the Sunbury Public Library.
Furthermore, the Zoning Commission conducts hearings when a citizen applies to change their zoning designation. Applications are submitted at the regular meeting. Within 30 days, the Zoning Commission conducts a public hearing to review the request, gather public input, and make a recommendation to the township trustees to either approve or deny the request for the zoning change. Applications and procedures are located at the Harlem Township Department of Fire. Notification of the hearing is sent directly to surrounding property owners and will appear in the Delaware Gazette under Public Notices.
All meetings and hearings of the Zoning Commission are open to the public. Regular meetings are the first Monday of each month at 7:30 p.m. and workshop meetings are the second Monday of each month at 7:30 p.m. in the Community Room at the firehouse.
